Holy
Loitering
Gatherings
for those in the middle-aged group and beyond.
Hanging
out with friends is good for your health! Individuals with strong social
support networks tend to be healthier and live longer. Perhaps it’s the
accountability factor or the loving push received from friends that
encourages us to seek out ways to improve our level of wellness. Leonard
Sweet in his book “The Jesus Prescription for a Healthy Life” lists
hanging out with friends as one way we can be healthier. He cites Jesus
example of lingering, loitering, and just “being with” as a vehicle for
community building and transformation. Sweet’s list for health includes
laughing a lot, discovering a child-like way of play, saying yes to
opportunities to join the party, and taking time away from everyday life to
view the world differently. The Holy Loitering group of Lake View
Presbyterian Church provides such an opportunity to fellowship with others to
enhance our wellness. Please join us!
Pot luck and fellowship at the church on the 3rd Saturday evening of every
other month. We will also gather for special events. Watch the church
bulletin or newsletter for additional information!

Men's
Group
The
Men's Group began as a fellowship for men of various ages. It began
meeting once a month on Saturday mornings to talk about who we are, what we
do and how that fits or doesn't fit into our Christian lives. Obviously, we
have moved along tangents in many different directions. We have taken trips
to a variety of locations such as Springfield, Starve Rock, Architectural
tours, organic growers, the Holocaust Museum, etc. We have examined a
wide range of social justice issues both with special speakers and with our
members and parish associates. We have contributed money for a boat in
Colombia. We have completed projects in our church building, such as
the partial making over of the chapel.
Retreat
The group’s main activity for the year is a fall retreat where we take a
weekend and discuss a book, a social issue, or topic of interest to the
group. For the past several years we’ve been going to Conference Point
Center near Lake Geneva, WI. There is always plenty of free time for group
members to pursue their individual interests, be they bike riding, astronomy
(Yerkes Observatory is nearby), shopping, hiking, etc. It’s a great way to
keep in touch with members of the congregation in an intimate setting. There
are scholarships available for church members of limited means.
Contacts:
Tom Gyori, Rev. Richard Poethig, or Bill Hastings. If they don’t have the
answer, they can put you in touch with someone who does!
Women's
Group
Women
meet six times a year for an informal brunch on Saturday mornings
and have an annual retreat every January. Join an
inter-generational gathering for fellowship, study and, of course, the
company of women!

Mission
statement: "We are a dynamic community of young adults in our 20s and
30s who are wrestling with faith and the tough theological questions about
what it means to be Christian today. We're an open-minded collection of
people whose faith comes from diverse backgrounds and who welcome new voices
and perspectives as we come together for weekly Bible studies, regular
brunches, fellowship opportunities, and service projects.
Tuesday Bible Study
YABS (Young Adult Bible Study) is for people in their 20s
and 30s looking to study the Bible in a safe space with other young adults
who are going through similar life transitions. Topics are guided by
the interest of the participants
.
Brunch
Come along on the 3rd Sunday of each month for brunch at a local eatery!
Fellowship Events
Trips, dinners, and other gatherings are planned throughout the year.
