School History
The Academy was started in September, 1972, by a group of high-school-age
youth and their pastor because the young people felt they could not reach their
educational goals in the local public schools they had been attending. The
school began in a supportive, family-like atmosphere with a remedial emphasis
and a largely volunteer staff. Although the school was intended to serve only
the original small group of students, more teenagers began to ask about being
admitted.
The Lake View Presbyterian Church (LVPC) became aware of a
broad need for this kind of school and gradually made the commitment to keep
Lake View Academy open. Over the years, the Academy has strengthened its
program to meet the interests and needs of the wide variety of students who have
come to the school, and has increased its capacity from 13 to 25 students.
